First Post (and orange cleaner recipe)

So here it is.
My very first blog.

I thought I would start off with my favorite and very first homemade cleaner. It's simple enough for our 7 year old to do.

Do you have lots of these?

We do. My girls eat oranges like they are fighting off scurvy.
Ingredients:
orange peels and vinegar
and
you will need a jar with a lid

That's it. You're done.

Fill your jar with as many orange peels as you have hanging around on your counter.

add vinegar
Put the lid on and shake it. Put it someplace dark. Shake it every once in a while until it smells less like vinegar and more like oranges. (really)

The jar on the right is about 2 weeks into "pickling", I think it's about done.

After it seems about right, I strain mine through a small strainer over a funnel into a spray bottle.

It's really great as an all-purpose spray, and does windows and glass too!

Happy Cleaning!

  1. Excellent. Always wondered what to do with my orange peels once my azaleas were happy.

  3. Love it! Do you think Clementine peels would have the same effect? My kids eat more of those than standard oranges. I'm wondering now about Tangerines, Grapefruit and other citrus peels... a combo maybe?

  4. Sarah- I have used other citrus as well. The best was grapefruit and lime. I think the more fragrant (and juicey) the peel the more oil it is going to leave in the vinegar. The oranges I prefer are the giant navel ones.
